“And ladies, don’t let anybody ever tell you that you are past your prime.”
This statement from Michelle Yeoh’s speech at the 2023 Oscars speaks to me lots. And to many others from the number of posts that I have read.
I remember how some people told me when I was in my thirties looking to rebuild my life that “I have wasted my youth”. Thank goodness for others who were super supportive and loving.
Let’s be kinder and more encouraging in our words to one another. Kind well-meaning intention or caution can be spoken differently to be uplifting. There is no necessity to be disparaging or damaging.
If you are on the receiving end of statements such as:
☹ Dress/ behave your age
☹ You are already (age), you should just relax and take it easy
☹ Well certainly, the best is behind you
☹ Are you serious?!!!! You want to do this at your age!
☹ Why learn so much at your age? Your brain is not as agile as the young ones.
☹ Are you trying to be young again?!
☹ (Fill in the last potential limiting statement you heard from someone)
You can do a quick ecological check.
If the dream, action or behaviour that you are embarking on does not harm you, anybody or the community, then discard the non-useful statement that you have received.
No one is ever past their prime to dream, to action and to enJOY.
