When I first decided to fly solo with my first company Dream Catalyst, I did two things:
☀️ I ensured that no matter how tight money was, I provided the same amount of allowance to my parents even though they asked me to keep the money for myself. I felt that my parents should not be affected by my decision to be self-employed. Doing this also helped to allay their worries about me striking out on my own.
☀️ I asked my parents to give me a year to test it out as a solo entrepreneur. If it does not work out, I will return to the workforce. That assurance provided me with a timeframe to assess sustainability of my dream and also again, another reassurance to my parents.
Those two actions provided me with a practical grounding as I took flight with my dreams.
The third thing I did was to ensure that I made time for them, my family, friends and also my well-being.
This is critical as we can be caught up in the busyness of making things work and forget about what’s important too.
