Step 4: Be Open and Say Yes to Opportunities
In Step 4, it is an invitation for you to feel, be, think openness in your manifesting process. Be open to signs, invitations, signals that come your way. It could be something you read, come across, ideas that pop up or through people for example, invitations to attend an event.
When such opportunities arises, say YES.
Your very first YES can lead through a chain of events to your dreams.
When this client first approached me for 1-1 sessions, he was going through a most painful depressive period. His wife has just initiated a divorce saying he wasn’t good enough. He was also the primary caregiver for his grandparents. He wanted to create a happier life moving forward. And we did that. Step by step. Besides the 1-1 sessions with me, he also embarked on self-development and accepted invitations to socialize. Fast forward a few years. I was his wedding coordinator for his wedding ceremony. His new wife is a most beautiful and kind person. In fact, they met when he agreed to help me with a talk that I gave. They soon welcome the birth of a daughter and a new stage of life. The power of the first yes!
His story is just one of many that my clients have shared. Likewise, it is the same for me too. For example, you might recall that in my dream boards, one of the things I wanted to have was a job where I only needed to work only a few days in a week and has impact and meaning.
My first YES to that happening was when I bumped into an ex-classmate on the MRT (a public transport system in Singapore) after an event. I have not seen her since we graduated from school. We decided to grab a coffee since we both alighted at the same stop and had time to spare. After exchanging updates, she asked me if I will consider designing and delivering a parenting programme at the family service centre where she is working at. I said yes and that became my first professional training engagement as a freelancer (I was taking a sabbatical at that time). Prior to her engagement, I had only designed and done training programmes for the non profit organization that I was with. This engagement provided me with my first professional fee as a trainer and opened up possibilities.
Shortly after that, I decided to return to corporate training. But because I worked in the non profit sector for a decade, I was told that it was going to be challenge to find job because I had no corporate experience/ value. Guess what? That first yes to my friend opened up another yes.
During my interview with a prospective new employer, I shared the story with him. He offered me the job the next day. I learnt later on that he liked my gumption to saying yes and finding a way to be successful at designing and delivering the parenting programme. He knew then I would be resourceful and a valuable contributor to his company. Being in the corporate consultancy firm was an enjoyable foray back into the corporate world. And that opened up the next yes when when I decided to set up my own company Dream Catalyst. That became the start of working only a few days in a week.
In the weeks and months ahead as you are manifesting your dreams, be open and say yes to opportunities.
